We spent the last couple of days in Central New York at SUNY-Cortland. Unfortunately Mother Nature was not very cooperative, Monday was a complete washout and Tuesday was frigid.. So needless to say there were not a lot of outdoor spring photography to be had.
In our travels I did notice something that I really hadn't thought of or really noticed before while shooting: THE SCORES OF DIFFERENT LOGOS OR GEAR WORN BY STUDENTS, there didn't seem to be any consistency with the identity at Cortland among the students. I know that administration is working on this and trying to streamline to a single brand..
I thought it was pretty cool to see all the different gear and logos.. Under Armour, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Champion, etc.,etc..
To keep it short, in going along with my question on Monday about authenticity: Controlling the Image or message is going to be an uphill struggle with these kids now and in years to come.
I think it's a perfect example of the "customer" telling everyone, "we're gonna tell you what the brand is, and you (administration) better embrace it..
There definitely has to be a strong central brand image of any school but wondering what your thoughts are on this licensing thing?

Question
When are we going to stop trying to 'control the message' and embrace authenticity?

Santa Clara University - Day Two
Another long week complete.
I can't believe it's already the end of April and almost the end of our busy spring shooting season, it has definitely been a whirlwind. This week found us in Dallas, TX and then most recently in sunny Santa Clara, CA...
Just arrived home from a 100 mile drive from Boston off a JetBlue Redeye from San Jose. Time to crash pretty soon.
Here are some from yesterday at Santa Clara University... We've been to a BUNCH of campuses all over the country, and IMHO Santa Clara has been the most beautiful we've seen (sorry University of Miami)... Unfortunately you'll have to take my word for it. I am exhausted and looking through the roughly 10,000 images just isn't gonna happen this morning..
I was reminded of an article in the NY TIMES a while back about blogging until you drop. Not that this blog has the readership that the biggies have, but there is definitely a niche following that returns day in and day out that come to expect updates. We hope to not disappoint..
Off to sleep, hope everyone has a wonderful weekend..

Texas Wesleyan University, Fort Worth, TX - Day Two
"Do You Know the Way to San Jose?"
After a second hot, humid day at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth we now find ourselves in Santa Clara, CA, a million miles away from home for a couple days of shooting at Santa Clara University..
If Mother Nature cooperates, we are in for a great couple days of picture making. Everything I've seen online of Santa Clara University (Flickr) the place looks just fabulous..

Texas Wesleyan University, Fort Worth, TX - Day One
Back for another crazy week criss-crossing the country. Today we found ourselves in Fort Worth, Texas at Texas Wesleyan University.
The weather in Texas was wonderful and not stifling as feared. It was hot, about 93, but a wonderful breeze that we took full advantage of while working the Rams Baseball game this evening.
Heres a bunch from before and during the game. Enjoy..
Another day in the sun at Texas Wesleyan Tuesday and then off to Silicon Valley for Wednesday and Thursday.

Another Week of Admissions Photography

Just a few from St. John's University in Queens from Friday. What a week it was, it was real nice to finish up Friday afternoon and get home and relax, for a few hours anyway.
Spent a large part of Saturday night processing files that have to be delivered real soon.
We are in Fort Worth, TX the next couple of days, gonna be hot and sticky.
I can tell the busy travel season is starting to wear a bit, I ran out of the house and forgot to pack SOCKS for an entire week on the road. Will definitely have to make time Monday night to get some clean socks!!!

Almost the WEEKEND

Well the end to this LOOONNG week is in sight, we will be off to our fifth school this week in a few hours.
Today was spent in and around the city of Boston at Suffolk University. This is truly the definition of an urban campus, From Historic Brownstones to Modern Hi-Rises scattered throughout the Boston Common area.
Heres some stats for the week which started out Sunday afternoon with a Drive to Providence to catch a plane to Cleveland and then rent a car and drive to Detroit.(No seats available to Detroit under $2,000, which would've definitely been a deal breaker, if I had tried to pass that off as travel expense to the client) It will end tomorrow at about 9:00 pm when finally home from Queens, NY.
Here goes:
Hartford - Providence -110 miles driving
Providence - Cleveland -636 miles in the air
Cleveland - Detroit -175 miles driving
Detroit - LaGuardia, NY -618 miles in the air
LaGuardia, NY - West Long Branch, NJ -75 miles driving
West Long Branch, NJ - Hartford -174 miles driving
Hartford, CT - Storrs, CT -52 miles driving
Storrs, CT - Hartford, CT -52 miles driving
Hartford, CT - Boston -110 miles driving
Boston - Hartford, CT -110 miles driving
Hartford - Queens, NY -145 miles driving
Queens, NY - Hartford -145 miles driving
Total Flying Miles - 1,254
Total Driving Miles - 1,148
Hours of SLEEP - Not nearly enough
Number of Sudafed Taken - Way too many
Time Spent on the road with my DAD - PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend

UCONN, Storrs, CT
Here's a bunch from The University of Connecticut, home of my beloved Huskies.
I can't even begin to explain how nice it was to be home, and not a hotel room at 8:00 pm. I was tempted to just go home and crash on the couch and turn in for a nice comfy sleep in my own bed. Yeah right, like that's going to happen! We are so behind in processing and delivering files to clients, that's the downside to being so darn busy. Got a ton of processing done by 10:30 and ready to go to bed until I realized, I hadn't downloaded 14 GB's worth of cards from the shoot.. So here it is 1:30 and WAY past a healthy bedtime... Have to be on the road by 5:30 for a shoot in Boston.. Well hope you enjoy the shots from UCONN..

Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ
Day Two this week found us on the ground a mile away from the gorgeous New Jersey shore at Monmouth University.
A wonderful Spring day but the trees were lacking leaves, which by the way is a major pet peeve of mine. I'll have to let Mother Nature know. There's nothing like a great Spring Day with kids having fun outside in the sun, but all you can see are leafless trees, it drives your eye right to the horrible dead looking branches.
Anyway, we're finally home, it felt like we were gone for a month, even though it was only 48 hours or so... I've been fighting a NAGGING cold, that doesn't want to go away.
Off to bed and up and at 'em again tomorrow. This time at UCONN!!!! It is going to feel so nice only having to drive 40 minutes to work and back home at a reasonable hour..
By the way gotta love the Arizona Wildcats shirt on the girl on the elliptical!

Marygrove College, Detroit, MI
Here's some from our day at Marygrove College in Detroit, MI..
After waking up with a HORRIBLE sore throat that couldn't have come at a worse time (5 days, 5 schools, 5 states) we headed out to Marygrove for a great day of shooting in this urban Detroit campus.
We just arrived in New Jersey for a day of shooting at Monmouth University. Hopefully the Sudafed will kick today.

St. John's University, Queens, NY
Here's a bunch from St. John's University in Queens from Friday.
St. John's is a WONDERFUL place, probably the most diverse campus we've worked at, and one of the busiest... Always a ton of activity going on..
We just arrived in Detroit, MI for a shoot at tiny Marygrove College.. We will be here all day Monday and then catch a 9:30 flight to LaGuardia..

Is it the Weekend Yet?

What a week, our plane out of Chicago to Hartford last night was delayed for about two hours due to the weather in the midwest, we arrived home at 1:30, just a few hours ago. Headed out the door now to St. John's University in Queens, NY right now ( 3 hour ride)..
Despite the weather in Bloomington, IL yesterday we had a great day of shooting at Illinois Wesleyan University, Unfortunately the clock is not on our side, hence a short blog post today.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, IL - Day One
We are currently in Bloomington, Illinois for a two day shoot at Illinois Wesleyan University. This shoot's focus is on INDOOR stuff - classrooms, labs, faculty-student interaction, residential life and other things that happen inside away from the plush grounds that are just non-existent this time of year up North.. So the monsoon forecast for tomorrow should have little impact on the assignment, except that we forgot our umbrellas!!
We have been going pretty strong the last month or so, but it just hit me that we are going to be EXTREMELY busy the next few weeks, We fly out of Chicago Thursday night, arrive home after midnight, take a quick nap and off to St. John's University in Queens for Friday. Then the next Ten Business days at 7 Schools in Seven different states, starting Monday in Michigan then NJ, CT, MA, NY, TX, and CA... Yikes!! Anyone want a job processing files???
Well here's a few from IWU today..
Enjoy

The University of Florida and the "Gator Nation"
Three days of fun in the sun, it doesn't get much better than that!!
Yesterday was spent at The University of Florida in Gainesville, lots of fun.. Talk about a rat race though, yikes!!
It's definitely the biggest and busiest campus we've been on. You could spend an entire month shooting and not cover everyhting.
