Followup to 2007 Teens' Holiday Wish List

Brad over at SquaredPeg had a great idea to test Kaplan's poll to prospective college students Holiday Wish List, Run a quick Facebook Poll.. I took him up on it to see if we found differing results than Kaplan's.
This type of poll, like any requires a lot of legwork to get an accurate sample, so please take our findings with a grain of salt..
I hadn't run a Facebook poll in a while, there have been some changes.. For some reason I was only allowed to run a sample of 100 which really was disappointing and the price had gone up considerably. ($.25 per response) I ran a few polls in the summer that were considerably lower per response and was able to narrow down the demo further and allowed to gather a much larger sample size.
Anyway here are the results.
73% of 13-17 Facebook users that responded would take the money and run and 27% would rather be accepted into their top choice. A far cry from Kaplan's 59% response for "aceptance into top choice"
So as raw as the poll was, you have to wonder where are these pollsters getting information? Are they getting accurate snapshots? Or are they just going after the results that they want to hear?
This is an area that I would like to pursue further. (accurate market research, there is a definite need for it.)
So take at as you will.. Just a quick experiment..

2007 Teens' Holiday Wish Lists: College Acceptance and Scores outrank Cars and Cash

I feel a rant coming on here... According to a recent poll of nearly 1700 prospective college students by our beloved friends at Kaplan, more and more kids, 59% to be exact, given the choice between a half a million bucks or getting in to their top college choice would opt for the latter. (how's that for a run-on sentence?) Students were also asked to choose between perfect SAT/ACT scores or a new car. 86% chose perfect SAT scores.
Personally I would take the perfect test scores, but pass up a half million, not a chance!!!
I guess what I am getting at is this: we are bombarded with polls day after day after day. How accurate are these polls? Of the nearly 1,700 responses in this particular poll, what percentage of them were upper crust students eyeing the Ivies and Top Tier LAC's? I bet most of them were... Wonder what the poll would give us if taken to an average middle class American Town? Sounds like a great project if I had some time to conduct.
Are we relying on all these studies too often?

'Tis The Season for Holiday E-Cards
I was processing some files a bit ago and my ADD got the best of me.. I remembered Eckerd College's Holiday E-Card from last year, and I did a quick search for this year's edition, but I couldn't find it. Hopefully the Eckerd Web Dudes do one again this year..
I know that the University of Maryland's holiday card is getting a lot of play thanks to Karine's post last week.
I would like to add one to the list that I thought was extremely well done from Red River College in Winnipeg produced by the Red River College Relations office..
Loved it when the president asked the students: "would you guys be my friends on Facebook?", thought it was priceless.
If you have any others you'd like to share please let me know and we can get a list going for the next couple weeks to pass the time before the holidays

Slideshare
While on a cross country flight last week from Boston to Oakland, I decided to get some editing done.. After blowing through three Mac laptop batteries I was able to get through two full days of initial editing with photo mechanic.. I also picked out some that I liked.. Here's the result in Slideshare, take a look and let me know what you think.. Just another avenue of showing images for us..

2007 Assignments Come to an End

Whoa!!! What a semester!! We finished up our fall semester assignment schedule today at Holy Names University in Oakland, CA... I'm writing this while waiting for a Jet Blue redeye to Boston..
Here are a couple from today's shoot.. The two images are obviously of the same student. Holy Names has a very small student body, and I think we took pictures of every student at one time or another over the last two days..

One More Shoot Day 2007

Well the countdown is definitely on.... ONE more day of shooting in 2007.. After a Seven hour flight on Sunday night and a three hour time change, we were on the ground and shooting at 8:15 this morning at charming little Holy Names University in Oakland, CA... When I think Oakland, I think MC Hammer.. Well the school is anything like that, it is a SMALL campus nestled in the hills with a breathtaking view of the entire Bay Area, unfortunately weather was not so conducive for any great images of that today, we'll be there again tomorrow and hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate to take advantage of the campus beauty. One more long day tomorrow before we hop on the red-eye to Boston and our final flight until '08..
